    HudComedy is more than just your average comedy gig – hosted in the Lawrence Batley Theatre just across from campus, we’re proud to announce that our HudComedy Headline Act for Freshers’ Festival 2017 is the brilliant Chris Ramsey!
    “Frighteningly talented… tearing up every stage he lands on” – As described by GQ

    His high-energy delivery, hugely engaging manner and off-the-cuff style have cemented him a place as regular face on entertainment shows such as Celebrity Juice (ITV2) and 8 Out of 10 Cats (Channel 4). As a stand-up, he is in demand on television with appearances on Live at The Apollo (BBC) and most recently The Royal Variety Performance (ITV).

    Following sell-out runs of his last three UK tours Chris is currently touring a brand new show – All Growed Up which explores getting older, taking responsibility and realising you are no longer a child along with all the other terrifying realisations that come with being dragged kicking and screaming into modern adulthood.

If you come to Lawrence Batley Theatre with your unredeemed ticket on the night of HudComedy you will not be able to pick your seats.

    Sports Clubs and Societies than you can shake a stick at.

    This is your last chance to kick off Freshers’ Festival in style, so get on to campus and get involved in everything student life has to offer at the University of Huddersfield!

    Freshers’ Fair is free but it will be very busy, so get down early!

    8:00pm - late | Floor 5, Student Central | £12

    HudCrawl is Huddersfield’s biggest night out where you’ll visit 8 of the town’s best bars and clubs! Make sure you grab your ticket early so you don’t miss out, it’s the perfect opportunity to meet other new students as 2,000 of you will get to see what Huddersfield town centre has to offer.

    You’ll get a t-Shirt on the night which gives your entry into 6 bars and 2 clubs, with pre-drink prices until 10pm (including a mixture of alcoholic and soft drinks, look out for the pink posters). As well as all that you’ll get; free sweets, bottled water and finally your own SU staff team will be showing you around town to make sure you have the best night!

    HudCrawl always sells out, so get your ticket quickly!

    HudCrawl Wristband redemption – including Single Tickets can be redeemed from Friday 15th September.

    T-shirts are available to collect from Student Central at 7:00pm on Tuesday 19th September, before all groups head to their starting bar on the crawl.

    Grab a seat and get comfy whilst feasting on loads of sweets and popcorn, all on us! It’s the perfect time to bring your new flatmates and course mates along to something a little more chilled during Freshers’ week.

    HudMovies is a free event, but make sure you get down early to get the comfiest spot!

    Join us to watch our league-winning University Basketball Club take on our local Varsity rivals Bradford in a showcase of skill, teamwork and sportsmanship.

    It’s time to let off some steam before you enter the next stage of your life by celebrating the best days of your teens with our #TBT Back to School Party. We’ve put together a night full of throwback hits, old school artists and best of all you get the chance to wear that tie again.

    The Line-Up:
    Big Brovaz, Booty Luv, Platnum and Sweet Female Attitude.

    Big Brovaz capitalized with the debut album Nu Flow and watched as the group became a U.K. sensation, taking home the Best Newcomer Award at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards in September 2003.

    Booty Luv are a U.K.-based dance/R&B outfit featuring dual lead vocals from former Big Brovaz members Cherise Roberts and Nadia Shepherd, whose debut single, “Boogie 2nite,” managed to crack the Top 20 of the U.K. pop charts.

    Platnum are a British bassline vocal group from Manchester, England, the trio are best known for providing the vocals on H “Two” O’s 2008 single, “What’s It Gonna Be?”, which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart in February 2008.

    Sweet Female Attitude are a UK garage duo, consisting of Leanne Brown and Catherine Cassidy, who are considered a one-hit wonder in the United Kingdom. Their April 2000 single “Flowers”, with music video directed by Pete Nilsen and Ryan Davids, made it to number two in the UK Singles Chart.

    It’s been a pretty hectic week, now’s the time to relax and enjoy our Feel Good Friday Event, brought to you by our very own Advice Centre.

    Feel Good Friday combines a mixture of activities to help you de-stress, relax and get ready for all the hard work around the corner. You’ll get to come and cuddle some super cute puppies, in conjunction with Guide Dogs for the Blind UK. Play a round of crazy golf on our own University mini greens, meet and talk to local advice groups and relax in our chilled corner. The Advice Centre will also be on hand in their Advice Tent, take an opportunity to say hello and find out more about what they do!

    Feelgood Friday is a free event but golf clubs will be limited so get there early to avoid any queues!

    HudLive is the biggest event all year, bar none.

    Following on from 2016’s huge head liners Sub Focus and Becky Hill, we’ve pulled out all the stops bringing you an even bigger and better live music event based at Storthes Hall.

    Expect a true festival experience with food tents, funfair rides, chill out zones and some good weather (fingers crossed!). You’ll be able to enjoy the sounds of our biggest headliner to date Chase and Status, alongside our brilliant supporting line-up including Karen Harding, Kiss the Thief and John Gallagher. We’ve also got a few more surprises that we’ll be announcing as we get closer to the event, so stay tuned!

    This Year’s Line-Up:
    Chase and Status, Karen Harding, Kiss the Thief and John Gallagher plus many more to be announced! 

    Chase and Status met at Manchester University, the drum ‘n’ bass duo Saul Milton (Chase) and Will Kennard (Status) have had numerous charting singles since their debut album in 2008. They have collaborated with numerous big names such as Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah, and Cee-Lo Green. They have had five sold out UK tours, three sold out European tours, and two sold out US tours and repeated festival appearances across the globe from Coachella to headlining Glastonbury in 2013. Chase and Status’ position within the grime and UK hip hop scene is further cemented in ‘Tribe’ the album (out August 18th 2017)

    Karen Harding a 23 year-old Newcastle girl has been forging her own path with her stand-out style and sizeable vocal talents. Described as the “Whitney Houston of house music” by NOISEY Harding’s smash top 10 debut single ‘Say Something’ is certified gold (450,000 UK sales) and with over 12 million video views.

    Kiss the Thief takes elements of Funk, Indie, Jazz and Rock to create a refreshing mix of music that aims to make you think as well as dance.

    John Gallagher is headlining the Student Stage, studying at The University of Huddersfield Gallagher is a resident DJ in a Huddersfield town centre bar.

    Holmfirth Food & Drink Festival

    This is a great opportunity to visit the market town of Holmfirth, in the heart of the Holme Valley, situated amongst the towering hills of the magnificent Pennines. As always, the local organisers of this annual event will showcase all the amazing food & drink the surround areas have to offer.

    Aiming to shine a spot light on local, Fairtrade and ethical businesses, the Food & Drink Festival promises to be a lively, engaging and interactive addition to our Freshers’ line-up with live music and competitions for all.

    While the Holmfirth Food & Drink Festival runs on both the Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th, the International Office is running coach trips from the University on Saturday the 23rd only. Tickets are limited, contact them or pop over to see them for more info.
